Stori of Africa Featured in Tatler Africa
Something stopped me this week.
Tatler Africa — one of the continent's most respected luxury lifestyle and cultural media outlets — published a feature on the African wellness practices every routine needs. Eight traditions spanning the African continent. The Moroccan Hammam. Activated charcoal. African Black Soap. Rhassoul clay. Drumming and sound meditation.
And right there, among them: shea butter. With an image of our Shea Balm.
I sat with that for a moment. Not because it surprised me — shea butter has always belonged on a list like that. But because seeing it in Tatler Africa, alongside these other traditions, reminded me of exactly why I started this brand.

What Shea Butter Actually Is
Shea butter comes from the nut of the Shea tree — a tree that grows wild across West Africa and can live for up to 300 years. The nuts are harvested by hand, cracked open, boiled, and slowly churned by women using techniques passed down through generations.
This is not a trend ingredient. It has been used across West Africa for centuries — to protect newborn skin, to heal wounds, to nourish through dry seasons, to care for hair, to mark ceremony. It was medicine before it was skincare. Community knowledge before it was a product.
When the Western beauty industry discovered it, they called it a breakthrough. African women called it was a trusted beauty item.
Why Shea Butter Is at the Heart of Everything We Make
At Stori of Africa, shea butter is not one ingredient among many. It is the foundation of our entire range.
Our Shea Balm — the product featured in Tatler Africa — is formulated with natural Shea Butter alongside Baobab Oil, Marula Oil, Moringa Oil, Ximenia Oil, Kakadu Plum, and Squalene. Completely fragrance-free. Deeply moisturising. Fast-absorbing.
Our Body Butters, handcrafted soaps, and Ori — pure unrefined shea butter in its most honest form — all begin with the same ingredient. Because shea butter is where African self-care begins.
What the Feature Means
Being included in a Tatler Africa feature on African wellness traditions is a reminder of something important. Skincare in the African tradition has never been separate from wellness. It has always been holistic — caring for the body, the spirit, and the community together.
That is the philosophy behind Stòrí of Africa. We do not just make skincare. We celebrate, preserve, and share the heritage of African self-care traditions with the integrity they deserve.
Our shea butter is unrefined. Our supply chain is traceable. Our ingredients are chosen because of what they have always been known to do.
